Occupational Tests explained
An occupational test is simply a psychological test used in the world of work. They tend to come in one of 3 types:
1. Ability Tests – shows an individual’s ability to learn new knowledge/skills
2. Personality Tests – show the ways in which an individual will typically behave in the workplace
3. Interest Tests – show where people want to go occupationally – widely used in career counselling
Tests are used for a number of purposes in various circumstances including:
- Recruitment
- Promotion
- Management and Staff Development
- Career counselling
However, the most common use of tests during the process of selecting new staff and when assessing a persons potential to carry out a job effectively.
